Your tooth and the surrounding gum tissue may feel slightly tender for several days due to the treatment and the previous condition of your tooth. This tenderness is normal and not a cause for concern. Avoid chewing on the affected side until your endodontic therapy is complete and the tooth has been protected with a restoration from your general or restorative dentist. You may continue your regular oral hygiene routine. Discomfort can be managed with ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin), aspirin, acetaminophen (Tylenol), or other prescribed medications as directed.
Note: Do not consume alcohol while taking these medications.
If discomfort cannot be controlled with these medications, or if swelling develops, contact Dr. David Abdelmalak at Glendale Endodontics & Microsurgery immediately at (818) 242-8955. If you develop a rash or experience difficulty breathing after taking any medications, seek immediate care at your local emergency room.
